Who’s Providing the Care?
The Granny NANNIES recruiting team scours our region to find the best and brightest Caregivers available. We know that there is a big difference between an average Caregiver and a great Caregiver, and we go to great lengths to ensure the people we are recommending will take care of the Client as if it was one of their own family.
What type of care do the Granny Nannies provide?
The Caregivers provide Companion, Homemaking, and Personal Care services. Essentially covering all the Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) that many of our Client’s require. We do not offer any of the Skilled Medical Services that Medicare provides. Here are some examples of the many different types of vital services provided by our amazing Caregivers:
- Companion Care: social stimulation such as conversation, board games, card games, puzzles, going for walks, watching television/movies together, etc.
- Homemaking: light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, errands, shopping, transportation to appointments, etc.
- Personal Care: Bathing, dressing, grooming, incontinence care, oral care, turning, transferring, feeding, etc.
What type of Home Care Training do the Granny NANNIES have?
All our Caregivers are either Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s) with an active Florida CNA License or Home Health Aides (HHA’s) with a training certificate from a Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education approved Home Health Aide Program. Unlike many of our competitors who train their Caregivers “in-house”, all our Care Providers have been through stringent, State-Managed training programs specifically engineered for Home Care Providers.
Do the Granny NANNIES have any specialized training, above and beyond what the state requires?
Yes. To become a Granny Nanny, the applicant must have additional training certificates related to Alzheimer’s/Dementia care, as well as Assistance with Self-Medication. Many of our Clients are affected by a memory disorder and/or take substantial amounts of prescription medication, so we deemed it crucial to require additional training in those areas.
Does Granny NANNIES use “Companions” as Care Providers?
No. We do not use Companions for several reasons. First and foremost, Companions are extremely limited with the type and level of care they can provide and are prohibited by the State from providing any “Personal Hands-On Care” as described above. Additionally, they can be difficult to vet and credential as they typically do not have any formal Home Care Training or Industry Experience. Lastly, since we only use CNA’s and HHA’s… If a Client starts with just companion and homemaking services, they can “Age In Place” in the comfort of their home without ever having to “upgrade” their Caregiver from a Companion to a CNA/HHA if Personal Care Services are needed at some point in the future.
Does Granny NANNIES have Registered Nurses (RN’s)?
Yes. However, while we are licensed to provide Skilled Services, we have elected not to offer that level of care as those services are generally provided by Medicare. Our RN’s are only available for Assessments and Medication Review (additional fees apply).
What type of backgrounds checks do the Granny NANNIES have?
All our Caregivers go through a very thorough vetting process. Most agencies do the bare minimum to satisfy their State licensing requirements. Here at Granny Nannies, we know that bringing someone into your home requires a lot of trust, and we take steps well above and beyond what the State requires to honor that trust. Every Granny Nanny applicant is subjected to the following:
- Rigorous, multi-step interview process that includes both Phone and In-Person interviews
- Level 2 National Criminal History Check through the FBI using digital fingerprinting
- Professional License and Training verification
- Supplemental Training verification
- 5-panel Illegal Drug screening
- Work Reference verification
- Personal Reference verification
- Both Criminal and Civil Clerk of the Court Records review
- Driver’s License and Driving History checks
- Auto Insurance verification
- CPR Training verification
Can I meet the Caregiver(s) prior to starting services?
Yes. You are more than welcome to have our recommended Caregiver(s) come to your home for a “meet and greet” prior to starting services. Many of our Clients, knowing we have decades of experience and an excellent track record of making great matches, often try our recommended Caregiver(s) without meeting the person(s) first. However, we know it is a big leap to bring someone into your home, and for those who are still acclimating to the idea of getting home care assistance, they can get some comfort from meeting the Caregiver(s) prior to starting.
What if the Client isn’t fond of the Caregiver?
No problem, we know that this is an extremely personalized service. While a Caregiver may be adored by most of their Clients, there can be instances where it simply does not work with others. Correcting this is as simple as calling your assigned Care Coordinator, letting them know what the issue is (the Caregiver does not talk enough, they talk too much, etc.), and your Care Coordinator will find a suitable replacement Caregiver immediately.
What if I need to reach you after hours?
No problem, we know that things do not always happen between 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. We have an On-Call team that is available for night and weekend emergencies when our Admin Offices are closed. We do not use an answering service, as we cannot control the customer service they provide. Instead, we utilize actual Granny Nannies Internal Office Staff so we can ensure you have the same great Granny NANNIES experience anytime you call. 24/7, 365.
